Privacy
Handspun has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your tapes live in your own iCloud, not on our servers.

Your tapes
Tapes you make are saved in your iCloud with Apple’s CloudKit. When you seal one, Handspun shares it read-only: anyone with its link can open it and see what’s on it, including its title, your name, the note, the songs, any voice notes and how it looks. Editing a tape changes it for everyone who has it. Deleting it for everyone removes it from your iCloud, and its link stops working.
Tapes people send you are read from their iCloud and kept on your iPhone.
Apple Music
Handspun uses Apple Music to find songs and play them. To help you pick, it can show songs you’ve played recently; that stays on your iPhone. If you haven’t let Handspun use Apple Music, what you search for is sent to Apple’s iTunes Search to find songs. Apple’s own privacy policy covers Apple Music and iTunes Search.
Voice notes
Handspun uses the microphone only while you’re recording a voice note. Recordings stay on your iPhone until you put one on a tape and seal it, when it’s shared with the tape.
Handing tapes over in person
While Handspun is open, it can find people nearby who also have it open, using your local network and, where your iPhone supports it, Nearby Interaction. Anyone on the same network with Handspun open can see the name you’ve set, whether you’re using an iPhone Duo, and the title of a tape you’re holding out to them. Tapes go straight from phone to phone. You can turn this off in Settings.
Your name and settings
Your name, colors and other settings are stored on your iPhone.
Reports and blocking
If you report a tape, your email app sends us a message with the tape’s details. We use it only to look into the report. People you block are remembered on your iPhone.
This website
handspun.app shows a page for tape links. It doesn’t use cookies or analytics. Cloudflare hosts it and processes standard request details, like your IP address, to deliver it.
The app also checks handspun.app for a list of tapes that have been taken down after a report. That request carries nothing about you beyond the standard details every web request has.
Keeping and deleting your data
Tapes you make stay in your iCloud until you choose Delete for Everyone, or remove Handspun’s data in your iCloud settings. Everything else (your name, settings, the people you’ve blocked, your recordings and the tapes people send you) is kept on your iPhone, and goes when you delete Handspun.
We keep report and support emails only as long as we need them to deal with what you sent, then delete them. To ask us to delete anything you’ve sent us, email mail@tunetransit.app.
